Madison River Fly Fishing summer (2014)
Holy cow, summer is almost over and I am FINALY updating my site. Madisonriverflyfishing.com has been at the way side due to guiding every day. Sorry to all of you whom look on here waiting for me to post. This summer has been great fishing and only a few days the trout were grumpy. When the water gets up to 72 degrees who can blame them. But with cooler weather mid day has been fishing better. Streamers have been consistent for bigger fish, especially early morning.
Ennis and the Madison valley just had it’s first cold front with one day a high of 48 degrees, it rained ALL day in the valley and snowed around 7000ft. But with that the big flying ants have come and trout are looking up again. It should be a great week and I am super excited to be fishing the surface again.
I still have some openings in September, after I get back from my annual Glacier park bear chasing trip. So give me a call and check for availability.
Thanks for reading and hope to talk to you soon.
Key West fishing report,
From Madison River Fly Fishing aka Rob Kessler’s fishing adventures.
After many days of working straight I am finally checking in. May has been interesting to say the least. We had to deal with 25-30 mph winds for 3 weeks. Then came the rain and 100% cloud cover for the last week. As you may know it is pretty hard to sight fish when you can’t see. But we were able to make magic happen with some tarpon.
This tarpon season has been either outstanding fishing or slim pickings. Tarpon are a SUPER moody fish when it comes to weather. So any change and they boogey off somewhere nobody knows about. Thank goodness when they did leave there were always a few around to cast and maybe pull on.
I am saying goodbye to Key West as I am flying to Montana tomorrow to start my summer trout season. I am planning on coming back to Florida sometime in October. But if you find yourself wanting to come down this summer while I am not here I can still line you up with a great captain. I am going to start building next years schedule later in June.
I still have some great dates for Montana if you want to come and chase your western fishing dreams.
To my clients, Thank You for a great season, laughs, and even some fish. I had a great time with you all!!!!!
Thank you for your interest in my site.

Although I am in Key West until June 12 the trout are not waiting for me. The bite is happening on the Madison and should continue to be until winter run off. With good water flows and warmer air the trout are just waiting for big buggers and girdle bugs. Held up in the deeper pockets and tail outs of the spawning holes trout are crushing the big nymphs.
I still have some prime days open June-November. So give me a call and let’s schedule your western vacation you will cherish for years.
Thank you for your interest in my website, hope to talk to you soon.

Key West fishing report,
Last week warmed up, bringing some good opportunities for tarpon and tailing permit.
February has brought some amazing weather with it and this week is looking to be a good one. Key West and lower keys weather forecast has night time temps in the 70s. This is the perfect recipe for getting tarpon and permit up in the shallow water flats.
Historically February can brew some GREAT tarpon fishing. With resident fish getting into the basins and laying up. (Laying up) is when tarpon get into certain areas and literally float in one spot, not moving. This brings a chance for us to get a fly in front of them and watch them fly. So contact us today to check for availability.
